Social Security & Medicare

Since day one, I have been committed to preserving and protecting Social Security and Medicare, both for today’s seniors and future generations of beneficiaries. These programs provide an important safety net and represent a promise between workers and their government – a promise which government needs to keep. I am deeply concerned about the long-term solvency of these programs. Experts project that on our current path, Social Security trust funds will not be able to pay benefits scheduled under current law in full and on time starting in 2033. We cannot continue to punt on reforming these critical programs. Congress must act to ensure that Medicare and Social Security are sustainable programs that our nation’s seniors can rely on for decades to come.
