Joyce Condemns Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Unacceptable Past Rhetoric
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) issued the below statement regarding disturbing past remarks made by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-14):
“As the only member of Congress to have prosecuted a school shooter, I was sickened by remarks made by Rep. Greene in 2019 questioning the veracity of some of our nation’s deadliest and most tragic school shootings. Furthermore, her anti-Semitic comments about a school shooting survivor are the kind of hateful rhetoric every member of our society should condemn. And we’ve all seen the horrific consequences of what happens when violence is encouraged against elected officials.
“While Ms. Greene made these comments before she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, the fact is that she is now a member of this legislative body and those kinds of remarks have no place in the people’s House. I am glad that Leader McCarthy will be meeting with Rep. Greene this week and urge her to take this meeting very seriously. I hope Leader McCarthy conveys to Rep. Greene that she will be held accountable for any similar rhetoric used while in office, as any Member should be.
“As Members of Congress, we are held to a higher standard. We cannot partake in fueling the dangerous political environment we now find ourselves in. Each and every one of us, regardless of our political affiliation, has the responsibility to do the opposite: act with the decency and civility needed for us to effectively serve the American people during these difficult times.”
