Joyce Calls on Colleagues to Put Aside Partisanship, Re-Open the Government and Enhance Border Security

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) released the following statement about the current partial government shutdown and the ongoing efforts to end it

“For 35 days, politicians refused to participate in good-faith negotiations that could have both ended this unnecessary shutdown and provided those risking their lives to secure our border with the resources they need to do their jobs safely, all the while making hundreds of thousands of workers and their families suffer the real-world consequences of their inaction.

“Americans deserve a good-faith effort from their elected officials to drop the partisan bickering and work together to solve the challenges facing our nation like fixing our broken immigration system. That’s why since this shutdown began, I have continued to call for commonsense negotiations across the aisle and have met with not only President Trump, but Democrats as well as Republicans to get federal workers back on payroll, fully fund the government and enhance our border security.

“Over the next three weeks, my colleagues on both sides of the aisle need to move past their single-minded approach that kept us in this mess for far too long and come to a bipartisan agreement on addressing the crisis at our border. If they don’t, we will be back in this same place on February 15th and that is not something America can afford.”
