BAINBRIDGE– This week, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) applauded Solon Middle School for being among Ohio’s 16 schools recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schoolsfor 2020. This outstanding achievement reflects the school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing any achievement gaps among students and honors the tremendous work of educators for exceeding students’ needs to prepare them for success both inside and outside of the classroom. This is the second time that Solon Middle School has received the National Blue Ribbon award. Last year, Solon High School earned the esteemed award, demonstrating that high-quality education and learning environments have continued to excel in Cuyahoga County despite the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has posed to both educators and students.

“Congratulations to Solon Middle School on being named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School,” said Joyce. “As a parent to three now-grown children, I can attest to how important high-quality education is as our children prepare for successful, meaningful futures. I applaud the U.S. Department of Education for recognizing Solon Middle School and its educators for all they have done to support their students, especially during the ongoing pandemic. It’s an honor to represent a district filled with school communities that are committed to providing students with the education they need to thrive and reach their goals.”

“We are honored to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School,” said Scott Hatteberg, Principal of Solon Middle School. ‘Together We Can’ is something we truly believe, and this honor recognizes the hard work of our teachers, staff members, students, and families as we strive to inspire our students to achieve excellence.”

“Congratulations to this year’s National Blue Ribbon School awardees,” said Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. “It’s a privilege to recognize the extraordinary work you do to meet students’ needs and prepare them for successful careers and meaningful lives.”

The National Blue Ribbon School Program has been celebrating superb schools across the country since 1982. The schools awarded demonstrate high levels of success among all of their students. This year, the U.S. Department of Education recognized 367 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020.
