Joyce Applauds Solon High School on National Blue Ribbon Recognition
BAINBRIDGE – This week, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) applauded Solon High School for being named a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The coveted recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among students and affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students can master challenging and engaging content. Solon High School has earned three National Blue Ribbon School Awards over the years, including its last award in 2008.
“I applaud the U.S. Department of Education for naming Solon High School a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School,” said Dave. “As a parent, I know how important high-quality education is in preparing our children for a successful future, and Solon High School provides just that to its students. In one of Ohio’s most diverse school districts, Principal Short has done an incredible job partnering Solon High School with local businesses, city government and volunteer groups to ensure educational opportunities go beyond the classroom. I am proud to have a National Blue Ribbon School right here in Northeast Ohio and look forward to seeing not only the future success of Solon High School, but the future success of its students.”
“This is great day for us as the entire country is hearing about the amazing students and staff we have here at Solon High School,” said Solon High School Principal Erin Short. “Being selected as a Blue Ribbon School is an exceptional honor that underscores our commitment to excellence. We are stronger together is our motto for this year and this award is a clear reflection of that philosophy in action. Together, everyone in our school community – students, teachers, staff and families – does whatever it takes to make Solon High School one of the nation’s best each and every day.”
Since 1982, the National Blue Ribbon School Program has helped the U. S. Department of Education celebrate great schools across our nation that demonstrate high levels of success from all of their students. Solon High School was nominated by the Ohio Department of Education as one of Ohio’s highest performing schools. This year, the U.S. Department of Education recognized 362 schools across the country, including 14 from Ohio. The National Blue Ribbon Schools program has bestowed recognition on more than 9,000 schools throughout its 37 years.
“We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in a video message to all Blue Ribbon Schools. “As a National Blue Ribbon School, your school demonstrates what is possible when committed educators hold all students and staff to high standards and create vibrant, innovative cultures of teaching and learning.”
