Mantua Mayor Joins Joyce for Visit to Local Small Business
MANTUA – Today, Mantua Mayor Linda Clark and Council President Matt Rosolowski
joined Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) for a visit to a local small business, Restoration 44 Coffee Company. During their visit they spoke with constituents and met with the owner of the company, Dan Tillett. The focus of the visit was how local and federal efforts could complement one another and effectively boost economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The past eight months have taken a large toll on small businesses like Restoration 44 Coffee Company,” said Joyce. “I remain committed to providing the resources necessary to help them tackle the challenges that lie ahead, keep their employees on payroll, and continue contributing to their communities. I thank Mayor Clark for taking the time to join me today and look forward to working with her and other local officials to ensure we continue to reignite economic growth here in Mantua and across Northeast Ohio.”
“I want to thank Congressman Joyce for taking the time to come out and visit the Village of Mantua today,” said Mantua Mayor Linda Clark. “His efforts to support economic development in our community, especially during the pandemic, are greatly appreciated.”
Since COVID-19 swept across the country, Joyce has been a fierce advocate for small businesses struggling to keep their doors open. In March, he voted for the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which created the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The PPP has provided more than 5 million loans to small businesses, supporting more than 51 million jobs and over 80% of all small business employees. In total, 6,691 businesses in OH-14 have received a PPP loan, helping to save 77,899 jobs across Northeast Ohio. Since the creation of PPP, Joyce has introduced legislation to improve the program, voted to provide it with additional funding and co-sponsored a bill that would allow distressed small businesses to apply for a second loan. Most recently, Joyce signed a discharge petition to bring that common sense legislation to the House floor for a vote, as it would allow small businesses who need additional assistance to access the $138 billion in unspent PPP funds. The petition needs 218 signatures to force a vote on the bill; it currently has 185.
