Joyce Releases Statement on Funding Bill to Reopen the Government
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) released the following statement in response to House passage of the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371 – Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026. This legislation reopens the government through January 30, 2026, and fully funds Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and Legislative Branch appropriations bills through September 30, 2026. The bill now heads to the President’s desk for his signature.
“Since this process started, I have consistently maintained that government shutdowns do nothing but harm the American people. I was proud to vote for the clean continuing resolution that passed the House on September 19, and I am proud to support this funding measure today, which will reopen the government. As Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, I look forward to working with my colleagues to get back to regular order and passing full-year spending bills.”
“At the same time, I would be remiss without saying it is unfortunate that Senate Democrats prolonged this ordeal. The deal we voted on today is the same deal Senate Democrats were offered weeks ago. We could have avoided the unnecessary and negative effects of the shutdown, which include air traffic controllers, TSA agents, and other federal employees working without pay. As members of Congress, we have a responsibility to legislate and to find common ground – not to inflict pain. With the government reopening, Congress can get back to doing its job and serving the American people.”
