Chesterland, OH – Today, U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) delivered remarks at the renaming of the United States Postal Service (USPS) office in Chesterland, Ohio, in honor of Sergeant Wolfgang Kyle Weninger. The USPS also installed a dedicatory plaque publicly displaying the name of Sergeant Weninger in the facility’s lobby.

In the 118th Congress, Congressman Joyce introduced bipartisan legislation to designate the USPS office in Chesterland as the “Sgt. Wolfgang Kyle Weninger Post Office Building”. This bill, which received exemplary support from the entire Ohio Congressional Delegation in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, was signed into law on November 25, 2024.

“I am proud to honor Sergeant Weninger for his service and sacrifice for our country, as well as remember the impression he made on our local community,” said Congressman Joyce. “The leadership, toughness, and humility he displayed on the field at Kenston High School were the very qualities that made him such an extraordinary fit for our Armed Forces. While we can never fully repay the debt we owe to Sergeant Weninger and his family, the renaming of this post office will stand as a lasting tribute to his service and a reminder of the impact he had on both our community and our country.”

“Our family is incredibly proud and humbled to see Kyle’s name and legacy memorialized today,” said Ernst Weninger, Kyle’s father. “His dedication to his country, community, and family was unmatched, and I hope his memory continues to inspire the people of Northeast Ohio. I want to thank Congressman Joyce and the Ohio Congressional Delegation for their support and efforts to make this tribute a reality.”

Background:

Sergeant Weninger, who went by Kyle or Wolf, was a graduate of Kenston High School and a local hockey legend in Geauga County. Kyle joined the Marines in 2015 and immediately excelled. In roughly four years, he earned the coveted Marine Special Operator Insignia and rose to the rank of sergeant. Tragically, Kyle (28) passed away following a training accident on June 16, 2020.
