Joyce Announces 2025 Congressional Art Competition Winner

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) announced Marlena Slaninka as the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Ohio’s 14th Congressional District. Marlena, who is a junior at Mentor High School, won with her submission Prophecy. Her artwork will be placed on display in the U.S. Capitol for an entire year. 

The competition’s honorable mentions include:

  • 2nd Place: Abigail Parks, Mentor High School. Her submission The Apple Hand will be displayed in the Congressman’s Washington, D.C. office for a year.
  • 3rd Place: Lily Walker, Mentor High School. Her artwork Stuffed Memories will be on display in the Congressman’s Mentor office for a year. 
  • 4th Place: Anne Stief, NDCL. Her piece titled The Queen will be displayed in the Congressman’s Warren office for a year. 
  • 5th Place: Jenny Nguyen, Andrews Osborne Academy. Her piece titled Blur of Memory will be displayed in the Congressman’s Ravenna office for a year.

“Every year, I look forward to seeing the artistic talents of OH-14’s students on display,” said Congressman Joyce. “The Congressional Art Competition provides an amazing opportunity for students across the country to show their creative gifts, and this year was no different. Congratulations to Marlena, Abigail, Lily, Anne, and Jenny, and thank you to everyone who participated this year. I look forward to seeing these amazing pieces of art displayed in the U.S. Capitol, my Washington office, and my district offices.”

In keeping with a tradition he started in 2016, Joyce hosted a ‘People’s Choice Award’ where constituents voted for their favorite artwork. Abigail Harps, who is a senior at Mentor High School, received the most votes this year and will have her artwork, Looking Forward on display in one of Joyce’s District offices for one year.

The Congressional Art Competition, which began in 1982, is an annual contest run by the U.S. House of Representatives where high school students from across the country are invited to showcase their artistic abilities.
