Urges Increased Bipartisanship to End Washington’s Dysfunction

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) has been ranked among the most effective and bipartisan Members of Congress. In the recently released “Bipartisan Index” by the Lugar Center and Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, Joyce ranks as the 22ndmost bipartisan Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives and the 44th most bipartisan member among all 437 Representatives on both sides of the aisle. The Index is a non-partisan ranking of how often each Member of Congress works across party lines using bill sponsorship and co-sponsorship data.

“In today’s hyper-partisan environment, reaching across the aisle has somehow become more controversial than allowing failed policies to continue hurting the American people,” said Joyce. “Effective lawmaking isn’t about one side winning and the other side losing…it’s about working together to address the needs of our communities back home. I’m proud to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in an effort to end Washington’s dysfunction and find the common ground needed to create serious, long-lasting solutions to the challenges facing our country.”

In March, Joyce was also named as one of the most effective lawmakers in Congress by the Center for Effective Lawmaking. A joint partnership between the University of Virginia and Vanderbilt University, the Center for Effective Lawmaking ranked lawmakers based on how successful they were at moving their legislative agenda items through Congress over the past two years. The study included an examination of the bills each Member sponsored, whether they advanced through the legislative process and were signed into law, and the significance of that legislation. Joyce ranked 18thout of the 205 Republican Members of Congress (the study ranked Members within their own parties to avoid penalizing those in the legislative minority).
