WARREN — U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce, R-Bainbridge, has introduced legislation to provide more grants to local communities in America battling the opioid epidemic.

His proposal would authorize $70 million more to the U.S. Department of Justice starting next year through 2024 for grants to help communities, in part, provide training and resources to first responders on opioid reversal drugs and devices, and boost efforts by law enforcement to combat the illegal distribution of opioids.

If lawmakers OK the proposal, it would bring the total provided annually by the grants to $400 million.

Joyce represents portions of northern and central Trumbull County.
